Our overmolding and insert molding parts mainly used for :
- Functional Prototypes
- Pilot Tests
- High demanding end use parts
Our Overmolding and Insert Molding Capabilites
SENYO provides a wide range of overmolding and insert molding services, you can always find the right solution at Senyo.
Over Molding Capabilities
SENYO can provide steps such as mold design, raw material selection, injection molding, secondary injection molding, mold opening, and post-processing and provide T0-T2 samples and inspection report before mold production. We will provide professional and comprehensive over molding solutions as well as one-stop services for your project.
Insert Molding Capabilities
It is necessary to fully consider the positioning method of the insert parts in the mold before mold making. The plastic around the insert parts should be appropriately thickened to prevent stress cracking and other related factors of the plastic parts. The quality of insert molding largely depends on the quality of the mold and manufacturing process. I believe that our decades of experience in mold making can help you anticipate potential risks in advance.

What is Over Molding
Over Molding is an injection molding process that adds an additional layer of resin to existing molded parts to provide a combination of characteristics that cannot be provided by a single material. One of the most common applications is to add a layer of soft and functional rubber like material, usually TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), to a hard substrate. Another approach is to change or enhance the appearance of parts by encapsulating materials with different colors or surface treatments. Wrap forming materials can be found on anything from medical devices, manual tools to toothbrushes, as well as gaskets and seals inside components.
What is Insert Molding
Insert Molding is a method of pre-fixing metal inserts in an appropriate position in a mold, and then injecting plastic into the mold for molding. After opening the mold, the insert is tightly embedded in the product by cooling and solidifying plastic. Metal electrical components or custom-made metal parts are usually embedded in the plastic in this way. The advantage of insert molding is that it can achieve complex structures and functions. It is widely used in fields such as automobiles, electronic devices, and medical devices to provide strong mechanical performance and functionality.
The difference Between Overmolding and Insert Molding
| Over Molding | Insert Molding | |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Combining the additional material with plastic injection molding, the additional material is usually TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). | Injecting additional materials onto the base material, which generally refers to metal. |
| Function | Commonly used to provide protection, improve appearance, or add additional features. | Commonly used to achieve material bonding and functional enhancement. |
| Industry | Electronic products, tool handles, household items, etc | Automobiles, electronic devices, medical devices, etc |
| Characteristic | General speaking the manufacturing cost of over molding is relatively low, as it usually only involves a single material and simplified process flow. | General speaking insert molding is relatively high, as it involves multiple material combinations and more complex manufacturing processes. |
FAQs For Overmolding and Insert Molding Service
What is the difference between overmolding and insert molding?
Mainly reflected in functional differences
Over Molding commonly used to provide protection, improve appearance, or add additional features.
Insert Molding commonly used to achieve material bonding and functional enhancement.
Details pls. refer to above table.
What is an example of insert molding?
For example, components such as terminals, connectors, and pins typically need to be inserted in plastic casings, which provide insulation, structural support, and protection from environmental factors while maintaining conductivity
For example: sensors, switches, and electronic control devices. This ensures durability while reducing overall weight and lightweighting
What is an example of over molding?
In the automotive field, it is used to manufacture lightweight and high-strength automotive components, such as body panels, engine mounts, etc. In the field of electronics, the over molding technology of composite materials is used to prepare high-performance electronic components and packaging materials. In addition, in the medical field, this technology is also widely used in the manufacturing of medical devices such as artificial joints and dental implants.
